Frame Redo

A little break from the porch redo while the paint dries. Hubby won't let me bring a thing on it until tommorow. So, I wanted to show you a follow up to a thrift store picture I bought last month. I paid $10 for the frame and picture. 
Here it is before

Beautiful frame but the gold had to go. The beautiful details didn't stand out. Plus, the gold did nothing for the picture.

First I cleaned it and used kilz as a primer.

 Next I painted it an Ivory color

Then I got out my acrylic paints and used a Raw Umber color mixed w/ glazing medium

I add a little water to dilute the color a little. 

Kind of yucky but I wanted you to see the consistency

I cover every space w/ the mixture

Wiped until I got the results I wanted.. I used q-tips to get excess out of the small spaces, and held my breath that it would turn out ok. 

I worked with small sections at a time.

 And in the end this is how it looks.. I am so excited about how pretty it turned out.

So much better for the picture, don't you think?

The color is a little off on this pic.. couldn't seem to get it right, but you can see the details really well.  

I always try to be very careful on the inside corners.. if not it will end up looking a little messy.

A tricky area.

I think the new color shows off the details so much more now. Hope you think so too.
