Frame Redo

A little break from the porch redo while the paint dries. Hubby won't let me bring a thing on it until tommorow. So, I wanted to show you a follow up to a thrift store picture I bought last month. I paid $10 for the frame and picture.
Here it is before

Beautiful frame but the gold had to go. The beautiful details didn't stand out. Plus, the gold did nothing for the picture.
First I cleaned it and used kilz as a primer.

More pics of details before

Next I painted it an Ivory color

Then I got out my acrylic paints and used a Raw Umber color mixed w/ glazing medium
I add a little water to dilute the color a little.
Kind of yucky but I wanted you to see the consistency
I cover every space w/ the mixture
Wiped until I got the results I wanted.. I used q-tips to get excess out of the small spaces, and held my breath that it would turn out ok.

I worked with small sections at a time.
And in the end this is how it looks.. I am so excited about how pretty it turned out.
So much better for the picture, don't you think?
The color is a little off on this pic.. couldn't seem to get it right, but you can see the details really well.

I always try to be very careful on the inside corners.. if not it will end up looking a little messy.
A tricky area.
I think the new color shows off the details so much more now. Hope you think so too.
Thank you for stopping by. I am going to start putting the porch together tommorow, can't wait. Part of the curtains are hung and I love them. Also time to get back out in the yard.
Thanks for stopping by

Your frame redo turned out wonderfully! I love the softer look with the new paint job; not so harsh and shiny as the gold. It goes perfectly with the picture of the lovely flowers!

What a fantastic transformation! Have you ever tried using white shoe polish? (you know, the kind in a squeeze bottle with a foam tip?) I've used that on many items with much success--it allows a bit of the original color to show through, as well! I've found it really updates 1970's pottery class figurines!
