Porch delima

I worked hard in the yard this morning. I had bought about 10 new plants that I had to get in the ground. I have a new area that I have started planting in. It is always a dilemma for me.. what I will plant and where is the best spot. You know how it goes, the first year a plant can look great in a spot..then the next year you need to move it somewhere else.Such a ongoing process, and a long way to go. This weekend hubby and I will be painting the porch so I wanted to get some help with colors from you.
I am not using the orange colors anymore.. switching to browns.. OK guys what color do you think the floor should be? I know you will have some great suggestions!

What to do with the baker's rack?.. it is an ugly green.. We will be putting a round iron table w/ chairs in that corner.. they are black and the wicker is dark brown. The area is larger than it looks. Here are the chairs, the table matches.

Bought new brown cushions, won't be using these.

I know the birdhouse is coming down, I don't know what came over me. What about sheers? I thought they would add some warmth to the area. White or off white? Or just something else.

The door to the dining room, it needs a little something, something too. Maybe a wreath or a basket. Do you know where to get those cute baskets that hold flowers.
Here is my view from the porch.. hubby bought this fountain for me.. the second one he has given me since we married, but this is my favorite. I love the design with the pineapple on top. It makes such a sweet sound, and the birds love it. See that beautiful tree? Hubby and I planted it when we moved in here .. got it from K-Mart.

Got to get some plants or flowers to go around this beauty.
 Any suggestions for that?

So this is what I want it to look like when I am done.. lol..

Ok, here goes--I would let the baker's rack sit outside and get a good rusty patina on it and use it for a potting bench; I'd use a pretty ocean blue that's so popular for accent w/your brown; If you're ambitious, paint the floor in black and white diagonal "tiles"; sheers would be too sheer, use a fabric that's on the sheer side or opt for bleached muslin. I'm sure your porch will be looking like your inspiration photos in no time ;)!

Hi Beverly!

I just wrote you a long note and it disappeared!??

I'll try again.

If it were me, I would paint the floor a nice dark khaki. It won't show dirt much and it will set off your wicker set, which is so great!

Can you tell me, are the outdoor walls of your home (the clapboard) white or ivory?
I would match the color of your wood siding. I hang ivory/white cotton duck panels on my porch every summer. They are less likely to mildew and they are easy to keep clean. I found really reasonably priced ones from JCP online. Another tip is that if you don't have curtain rods, you can buy white PVC pipes cut to size at the Home Depot.
They work great, are inexpensive, lightweight, and they resist the elements and don't have to be painted every year. They work especially well with tab top panels.

Your fountain is so nice! What a great gift. You have so many nice things to work with. Your porch will be even prettier that your inspiration photos when you are done, I can just tell!

Have fun!

Beverly, It's fun changing things around. As far as the white or off white sheers/curtains.. I'd use which ever is closer to the siding color of your house. For other colors, do you want to continue some of the interior colors to the outside? You could pick up those colors in accent pillows or flowers on your door arrangment. Good luck and can't wait to see what you do. I need to get busy on staining my deck and sprucing up the flower pots.
Enjoy!

Hi Beverly, I would hang cotton duck fabric instead of the sheers. It last a lot longer exposed to the elements. The bakers rack would be wonderful painted white and filled with plants. I would go dark on the floor and add pops of blue with pillows and accessories. I know it will be a beautiful porch whatever you choose to do. Thanks for joining my party.
